  • Crape myrtle trees shed their bark throughout the year and have pore-like branches making it appear as though they are raining in these early evening summer days. They are strange but make for great landscape fill-ins.

  • Howdy

Beth Moore's study on the book of Daniel has brought some consistency to my time with J the past couple  of months.  In the lesson for today I read Rev. 18 and just thought about the way that the Babylonian mentality is so evident in the world today no matter where a person might live.  The Babylon spoken of in Rev. led the rulers and merchants of the world into adultery and longing for more and more luxury.
Most cultures seem to say that you must have certain things to be happy whether it is security, material possessions, or marriage.  I reflected how America has enundated people with the desire for more and more tech gear/gadgets.  They are so readily available and advertised!
The past few days have been strange emotionally to be really honest.  I have felt sad at times for no apparent reason and partially wondering if I am really doing anything here useful.  I know the the truth, but the sp. war that rages around me speaks lies that I cannot seem to recognize at times.  When I do, that's when I fight with the Truth and everything gets better.

O, how many have thought that if they just had one or two more things that they would be happy?!
So, I just wanted to share that I am living out what I have dreamed about for so long, have everything I could possibly need and almost all that I want, and, yet, (as if it were a surprise!!) I need G to come and renew my heart with passion and my emotions with His love.  I want to be stirred with fresh faith to believe impossible things for my friends here.  The only thing I know how to do is to pr.y, trust, and obey.  The familiar truth: there is no other way to be happy!  O may this happiness be true for us all today!

  • Birthday visit with my sister

Today I'm in Rogers visiting my sister, Katie, with my family.  Katie and my birthday is tomorrow (Sunday) and we are celebrating our birthday and my mom's as well.  Katie showed us where she teaches school and told some interesting and funny stories about her kindergarten class.  Pig sooiee!  Razorbacks!  The Hogs just beat Vanderbilt today 21-19 in Nashville. Yay!

For those who don't know how to call the hogs, check it out!  It's really fun and it's okay to try out other cheers.  Last weekend I went to a Baylor game and when I tried the bear call it was a lot of fun.  What do you have to lose?!    http://www.houstonnutt.com/tradition3.htm

  • I went to Waco for a week and a half and loved my time there.  I don't want to leave there, but know I need to continue to get ready to leave.  I could leave October the 2nd.  That is only 17 days away!  Today was hard because some thoughts came to mind about all that I am surrendering to do what God has asked me to do.  He is ultimately good.
On my way to Little Rock I listened to a prayer room recording and meditated on the verse in 1 John on how the
perfect love of God drives out all fear.
It was a great time with the Lord.

Thought this was amusing and wanted to post it.  Hey, look what I found out: I'm superman.  I don't know about that but it would be fun to fly.

  • Woohoo Waco

It's been at least two months since I've been in Waco, probably three.  With so many friends here, there is no problem with finding great company.  I love all my friends!  Woohoo to friends!

I traveled here Thursday to go to a memorial service for my teammate's son who was found Saturday next to his truck.  The authorities ruled out foul play so it was a devastating situation for his family.

Friday morning I spent the morning on a conference call with a contractor in northern Iraq and an engineer.  Heather, our architect, a few engineers and I went over some questions about the Freedom Center.  We were so happy to get a lot done and accomplish some important negotiations with the contractor.  We are almost finished and ready to sign the papers for the contractor to begin work.  Woohoo!  and Praise God!

Last night I had dinner with some great friends of mine: Quang and Steve House.  I shared with them that Heather has talked with the president of the university where we will be located near and he said he is looking for 30-50 English speakers to come and teach English for a year or more.  He will provide a salary and housing.  I don't know the details but that is pretty awesome!  So if you know anyone who may be interested in loving the Kurds with the same vision that I am moving towards, please let me know.  Anyone want to go to the middle of the east - the only place I know of where they are asking Westerners to go?  Pretty neat, huh?

Today I visited with my good friend Kate at Panera for a few hours.  She shared with me about her medical trip to the Himalayas.  There were many rocks with buddhist prayers inscribed on them.  Her team was diverse.  Only five were followers of the way, but the 35 member team did a great job of hiking into beautiful mountainous areas to set up clinics for the people.  She is doing awesome in school and has started doing rotations.  Now she is doing psychiatry at the VA in Houston.
    -------------------------------------------------
My hope is to get a few days with some contractors on a few job sites in Waco to get some experience for the building of Freedom Center.  Also, hopefully I can raise some prayer/financial support here and by the end of September move.  One last woohoo! for this email but many to come later as well.  Everyone who reads this far...thanks for reading and special reward for the person who can tell me where Combat Chuck is from.  Later!

About Me

  • I am 26 years old and grew up in an incredible family. I have two younger sisters and the best parents for me ever. Dad and Mom have been married for over 35 years! I'm thankful for their commitment to us and especially to each other. Even more impacting has been the way they have supported us and let go of us by giving us to God. I graduated from the University of Arkansas last summer and moved to Waco, TX where I got plugged into an incredible local church. The biggest motivation in my life is to see people realize how awesome Jesus is and that He still frees people from sin and shame and gives abundant life today! "Christ in us, the hope of glory."
